When you become an SSI Level 1 freediver, you open the door to worldwide freediving opportunities. Learning to freedive with SSI is easier than you think! In part 1 of the Level 1 Freediver program, online training, classwork, and pool work are utilized to learn and master the skills necessary to safely and competently freedive under the watchful eye of our Instructor. Upon successful completion of Part 1, students will be able to sign up for Part 2 and complete the necessary freedives in open water to graduate with the Level 1 certification! This Part 1 section will start students on the road to eventually freedive with a buddy in open water up to a depth of 65 feet and explore a variety of stunning underwater ecosystems around the world. Requirements for Part 1 Completion
  • Complete all digital learning material and final exam.
  • Complete two (2) pool/confined water freedive sessions.
  • Complete academic learning sessions.
Required Performance Achievements:
  • Dynamic with bi-fins for 100ft while demonstrating proper neutral buoyancy, finning technique, body position, turn and surfacing.
  • Blackout rescue of a victim with dynamic weights on.
  • Loss of Motor Control (LMC) surface rescue.
  • Dynamic Only arm stroke for 50ft.
  • Static session in water.

  • Long Blade freediving fins
  • Marseille Weight Belt
  • Open Cell Wetsuit 5mm minimum [Required for Part 2, great to have by Part 1 start date]
