With its black volcanic sand, Dumaguete is known as the "Frogfish Capital of the Philippines", and is a world renowned destination for critter diving! Atlantis Dumaguete is located minutes away from over 20 local dive spots, most of which are marine protected areas, and offers day trips to the nearby Apo Island, Siquijor, and snorkeling with the Whale Sharks in Oslob. Divers can enjoy up to five guided boat dives per day and a dedicated camera room while non-diving travel buddies can take advantage of the quiet tropical garden, the waterfront restaurant, pool, and spa. We have been visiting Dumaguete for years and cannot wait to discover what the region holds season after season due to the sites we get to see, the incredible critters, and the people we get to meet. House Reef is just outside the resort. There you can see all sorts of weird and wonderful inhabitants! There are frogfish as small as your fingernail or as large as your dinner plate. Spot shrimp that sway in the fronds of anemones, unharmed due to their commensal relationship with the anemones, or that dance on top of bubble coral. Mantis shrimp peek up at you from their burrows. Slightly longer day trips will take you to the world-famous dive site of Apo Island. In the evening, you can dive with the kaleidoscopic mandarinfish as they come out for their nightly courtship.
