SSI Scuba Explorers - Navigation

A continuation of the SCUBA Explorers program: This program will teach Explorers about different kinds of compasses and the use of natural navigation to find their way under water.  Navigation Explorers will be able to take their new found skills into the water and learn to calculate angles of turns as they navigate their way through underwater courses.

What To Do Before Class:

Participants must have already completed the introductory, three day SSI Scuba Explorers Program.  All waivers must be signed and there must be a current parent or guardian-signed waiver on file.

What to Expect In Class 

The classroom session where students will discuss instruments and techniques used for navigation and they will have a land-based clinic to practice the skills before hitting the water.

The classroom session will then be followed by an in-pool dive session where students will use equipment and navigation skills to complete underwater courses and build on the skills they have learned in previous classes.  

What To Bring To Class

  1. Swimsuit, towel, mask, snorkel and fins. 

  2. Scuba Explorer book.

  3. Snack or lunch and a water bottle.  There are no close restaurants. 

  4. Dry clothes to change into after class and shower supplies, if desired.
