SSI Scuba Explorers Program

Children are the key to the future of SCUBA diving. Until now, they have never had the opportunity to be a solid part of the diving community. The Explorers Program was designed specially to welcome children into the community and keep them a part of it for the rest of their lives, while learning valuable life tools. The Explorers Program teaches children the knowledge and skills required to be a safe SCUBA diver, freediver, snorkeler, and - yes even a mermaid! - while encouraging them to have as much fun as possible! As a pool-only program, the SCUBA Explorers Program offers nearly all of the training and education that a regular Open Water Diver receives. Learning to scuba dive in the Scuba Explorers Program is the foundation on which children build self-confidence, discipline, and self-esteem. Participation in Explorers offers children the opportunity to learn more about the world around them, gain diving proficiency, be active in the scuba community, meet new and interesting people, and do things they never imagined possible! The SCUBA Explorers program is a unique program among youth sports. The SSI Explorers program allows children starting as young as six to develop their knowledge as they begin to explore the underwater world and ultimately have the opportunity to progress through one or more of the five main aquatic adventures: Blue Oceans Explorer, Snorkel Explorer, Free Diving Explorer, Mermaid Explorer, and Scuba Explorer.  Scuba Explorers is not a one-time experience.  Explorers can then continue to expand their diving knowledge and underwater experience with more than 20 specialty courses like Perfect Buoyancy, Boat Diving, Underwater Photography, Marine Ecology, and Shark Ecology.
