Northern California is an underwater hub of the mermaiding community. With yearly conventions, local "merpod" meetups, and mermaiding fans from all walks of life, we invite everyone to learn how to become a part one of the fastest recreational, artisan, and athletic groups around the world. Mermaids have gained popularity in recent years, with numerous mermaid stories depicted in cinema and television. In the early 2000s, keen mermaid swimmers began to develop their own mermaid equipment, and since 2010, mermaid swimming has attracted both recreational swimmers and professional performers. With its increased popularity, organizations like SSI introduced certifications to ensure that swimmers have the knowledge and training necessary to enjoy mermaid activities safely.
To safely enjoy your mermaid training, you must know what happens to your body when you dive below the surface, and must be follow the rules for safe swimming at all times.
Our Try Mermaiding course is a welcoming environment for anyone interested in learning how to safely become a mermaid/merman/merthey! Fin around and make new friends in our indoor, heated pool. In the Try Mermaid course, we supply the monofins and tails but students are always encouraged to show off and bring their own if you already have one!
